The Leadership Expedition combines leadership training with playful elements to make learning more active, concrete, and accessible. Gamification is not an end in itself in training. Effective playful elements help make complex topics more accessible, increase engagement, and encourage reflection. That is exactly why the Leadership Expedition was developed: leadership should not just be discussed, but experienced in the room.

What role do Lego figures play in leadership simulations?
In the game, LEGO is used as game pieces and for team-building activities. I had already noticed, while working as a trainer for the Google Future Workshop, how well materials like Lego are received. The effect is often astonishing: Many participants immediately respond positively to it because Lego draws on familiar play experiences. This quickly gets you going without compromising the seriousness of the workout.
How do the card decks work?
The card decks include leadership scenarios, prompts for reflection, and company-specific additions.
The freshly printed decks of cards are a central part of the simulation. They can also be supplemented with custom cards tailored to a specific company or specific leadership topics.
This ensures that the game remains relevant to real-world challenges and does not become an abstract training format.
What are “golden nuggets” and “salary cards”?
Golden nuggets and pay cards translate progress, resources, and decisions into visible game elements. Anyone who moves across the playing field gets paid—just like in real life. Elements like these create a sense of dynamism and keep the audience engaged.
What does the Connection Card do?
The Connection Card keeps participants engaged even after they have already achieved the goal. Those who have already reached the finish line and are, as the saying goes, sitting on the couch remain connected to the company and continue to collect golden nuggets. This is a playful element that adds value to the content: It highlights the fact that a sense of belonging and the ability to contribute do not automatically end just because a formal goal has been achieved.
What is the emergency nail used for?
In role-playing, the “stopgap” offers a way to relieve pressure and bring in support. If a person gets too flustered during role-playing, they can use the “quick fix” to step out of the situation and hand it off to a fellow player. This fosters a sense of security in the learning process while also facilitating observation, a change of perspective, and collaborative learning.
