Between a People-Oriented Approach and a Goal-Oriented Approach

HLR is an emergency medical service. There is now a new, in-depth article about my work for the HLR on the ID37 website. Click here for the article.

What else might be particularly exciting about working as a coach for an emergency medical service?

There are two things I experience with HLR that set the work at HLR apart.

#1. Don’t be afraid to get involved. Rescuers work with people every day in ways that some of us ordinary people don’t even want to imagine. They are able to connect with people even under the most difficult conditions and do not shy away from intimacy, yet at the same time they are good at setting boundaries.
When working with HLR, it feels to me as a coach as though we are working together—sometimes with spirited exchanges, but always in a supportive and approachable manner. We care about each other. And we have a common goal. We want what’s best for people and for HLR. Sometimes I feel a little bit like an HLR volunteer myself, especially when I’m doing volunteer shifts again and going out on calls.

#2. Unparalleled focus on goals. Whenever I pull a new strategic question out of my hat, emergency medical services manager Martin von Holten is guaranteed to say, “…I’ve already thought about that; I’ve already given it some thought”—and then pulls a plan out of his hat. When I do team-building exercises with CPR trainees, they finish in a tenth of the allotted time. Since I love goal-oriented work myself, I’m in collaboration heaven. At the same time, in leadership, it’s sometimes important not to rush—it’s better to take a second look.

👉By the way, working with the ID37 personality profile has proven to be very effective .

We’ve already put this to use in a wide variety of ways:
– as the basis for conceptual leadership coaching, loosely based on the motto “If you want to lead, you must know where you want to end up”

– as the basis for workshops in talent management
– as guidance in individual coaching sessions
– and also in group coaching sessions to clarify collaboration and roles

👉We now plan to use ID37 as a core tool in systematic leadership development. Experience is good, but a slightly more objective perspective on this and that is even more valuable.

👉Are you also part of an emergency medical service or a local government agency? Are you interested in learning more about ID37-based human resources management or attending a presentation on the topic? Feel free to reach out—I’m open to it.
